Leeds Town Hall will play host to the Leeds Chinese community’s traditional New Year celebrations on January 29.
The year of the Rooster event will feature food, performing arts, and opportunities to buy from local traders.
The Leeds Chinese Community Association (LCCA) has been putting on these events for the past 10 years.
Chinese culture has 12 zodiac animals and each year a different figure is celebrated; 2016 was the Monkey.
2017 festivities are based on the Rooster and to Chinese people this zodiac represents fidelity and punctuality, owing to the fact that it wakes people up on time every morning.
Alexandra Weatherstone, event coordinator said: “The LCCA are proud that the people of Leeds and its surrounding communities still come to show their love and support for this event.”
Schools and local groups from a range of different cultures will be performing music and dance on the Town Hall’s stage.
Ms Weatherstone added: “The diversity within Leeds is one of the reasons it is such a fantastic city to live and work.”
The celebration is a charity event and all proceeds go towards ensuring that the LCCA can continue its work in Leeds and beyond.
Tickets are available on the day and priced at £5 for adults, £3 for concessions.
